Grandma's Gumbo was amazing. So tasty, full of chicken, shrimp, sausage, and the roux was just right! I saw no difference in the regular bowl of gumbo and Grandma's once they got to the table. Not sure it was different or not. My brother had the regular bowl and also raved on it. It's self ordering with a kiosk but very kind folks to help if needed. Two of us ate for $44. Cook, and (my guess) owner, came out to ask 'how is everything?' He was very kind with a litte humor. Very nice atmosphere, appropriate music at just the right level and easy to talk over. Painted mural and decor gives the definite vibe of 'Nawlins'. It's a small but quaint place, very clean, seats about 20 people. You can order online and pick up too. Located in a nice storefront shopping area. If I lived in San Diego it would definitely be a repeat, go to, spot.

Finally! I've been waiting for a spot like this to open (and be good) for years. The food was amazing. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. You can tell that this spot is family owned and operated. It definitely did not disappoint. On top of that, the prices were reasonable. I highly recommend. I definitely will be going back!

California native but love Southern cuisine. Earlier today I ordered some takeout, getting the fried shrimp, fried catfish, tomato okra stew, and Grandma's Gumbo. Everything was great! Even my parents (who typically don't eat much fried food) loved it. I especially appreciate how they went out of their way to help me with some customizations on my gumbo order. Will definitely be back for more! Thank you for a great experience!

Came to the poboy shop for lunch today. We got catfish, shrimp, a shrimp poboy, gumbo,a hotlink, corn bread muffins, gumbo, and Cajun French fries. Everything was excellent. I love that they use a cornmeal batter. Everything comes out piping, hot and crispy. The slaw on the poorboy was also good. We will definitely be back.

While in South San Diego, I searched for a good spot to eat on Yelp and came across Poboy Shop in Southeast San Diego. They specialize in traditional New Orleans cuisine, serving up classics like jambalaya, gumbo, and Creole dishes. I decided to start with their cooked greens, which were absolutely delicious and also vegetarian friendly. After devouring those, I moved on to a shrimp poboy sandwich. It was packed with shrimp, cooked to perfection, and paired beautifully with my favorite Crystal hot sauce (though they also had Tabasco). Every bite transported me back to my times in New Orleans. To finish off my meal, I treated myself to the rum cake, an excellent choice and the perfect complement to my lunch. I had a brief chat with the owner, who has roots in both Los Angeles and San Diego. He learned to cook from family members, and that passion really shines through in the quality and presentation of the food. The ordering process is simple: you place your order at a touchscreen up front, and within about 10 minutes, your meal is ready. Quick, efficient, and absolutely worth it. The space is decorated with touches that make you feel like you're in the heart of New Orleans with the sound of jazz playing in the background. One thing to note there are no restrooms on-site. I'll definitely be back to try more from the menu. If you're craving authentic New Orleans flavors, Poboy Shop is a must-visit!

The red beans and rice were on point. Nicely seasoned beans, but I will say rice tasted like it was boiling bag or Uncle Ben's. The hot link was great. It was scored and grilled perfectly. The heat level was just how I like. Nicely heat but not overwhelming. I will definitely be pack to try other items. I don't okra and I noticed it's in the gumbo and black eye peas. I'd like to suggest they offer those items without okra as well as with it for the many potential customers that don't eat it. Can't wait to try other items.

We came here because my husband had a craving for shrimps cooked southern style. They didn't have grits but there were other choices and the prices were really reasonable. The only issue we had was the area of town. There was some commotion outside with the homeless folks in that complex

I drove all the way from Poway to check this place out and it did not disappoint! SO DELICIOUS & AUTHENTIC! This is a family-owned restaurant with great customer service. We were a group of 11 which they kindly accommodated. The atmosphere is super cute with handmade artwork from New Orleans and a beautiful big mural on one of the walls. I had the chicken etoufee, honey cornbread muffin, and the beans/okra/tomato mix and it was all so yummy I recommend all of those for sure! Hope to be back soon! My mouth is watering thinking about the food again haha

Haven't had my food yet but a little girl told me the food was delicious! She was dining with her mom and they both said it was good. I sort of got everything on the menu . Gumbo, fried fish, fried shrimp, and the rum cake. I'm actually excited to have some. The inside is very clean. The music playing, gives the creole Zydeco style feel. Did I mention how clean it is inside!? You order at the kiosk and take your seat to wait. I'll be back with the food review.

Want good food, good prices and nice lil vibe this little gem is the spot. A must try of southern flavor experience reminiscent to a home cooked meal from grandma kitchen. Much love and I will definitely return with more people to follow.
